Ford Ranger runout going so well, they may run out

On the back of an all-time record June for Ranger and another strong month in July, Ford is concerned the runout of its aging pick-up may be going too well. Indeed, the company may fall short of certain versions of the Ranger utility before the new model arrives in late September, especially with the new generation expected to arrive in waves.

The four-door crew cab 2WD and 4WD of the new-generation Ranger will arrive first, ahead of the two-door super cab and then the two-door regular cab, but the new lineup should be complete by the end of the year, says Ford.

“Ranger is going really well for us, almost too well if there’s such a thing,” said Ford Australia’s Vice President Marketing, Sales & Service, Beth Donovan.

“(Ranger supply) isn’t drying up yet but it will be really tight.”

Donovan says Ford Australia has increased its order of new generation Ranger after positive feedback during customer “clinics”.

“When we looked at what the customer response was we increased our order,” she said. “This is a big market, about 110,000 to 115,000 units a year. It’s neck and neck with compact SUVs.”

Ford Ranger 4WD sales were up 45 per cent year-to-date in June 2011.
